Fly in the Face of Fear

Have you ever had a brilliant idea that made you feel really excited? Were you were so ready to run with it and it could have changed or enhance your life greatly. It could have been anything from an invention, a house move, starting your own business, a change in career or you may have wanted to go back into education, to learn about something you enjoy – as oppose to have to do. Then, as quick as a flash, all those great ideas came to a grinding halt!

The inspirational glow you felt, as you dipped your toe into the exciting world of “I want to do this! This is amazing!” quickly turned into self-doubt, as you climb back in to your warm, cosy cocoon in retreat.

All those enthused feelings of happiness, excitement and motivation simply disappeared into the big black hole marked “I should have done that!”

The niggles in the back of your mind, full of; “what if”, “I can’t”, “I’m not ready”, “I’m not qualified”, “I don’t have the funds”, and so on, go racing round your mind, telling you that you cannot do it because, because, because……

We can all, very quickly, talk ourselves out of absolutely anything and everything. When those feel good moments have passed, we end up listening to our negative thoughts, which drag us down and hold us back. We then beat ourselves up for not taking that leap of inspirational faith and, in the end; we cease all action and go back to our regular day-to-day routine.

This is what I describe as the reverse butterfly effect.

Just to explain, the butterfly effect theories that even the smallest change can have a chaotic effect on something else. This theory has been at the centre of many physics debates, along with the closely related chaos theory, and string theory – where a single atom can affect another, seemingly unrelated, atom.

If we take this idea and translate it into our own lives, the reverse butterfly effect is doing nothing to affect nothing. Yet, if we had just made that big push and continued on the path of inspired action, we could have created a chain reaction. Simply put, if we had just stretched our wings that little bit further we could have created a multitude of positive outcomes.

However, sometimes our seemingly inspired actions are born from a lack of knowledge or confidence. There is a misconceived perception in our minds that we need to put ourselves through a series of education and learning. It makes us feel ready, credible and qualified to tackle our personal, ideal world of creativity, work and/or business. The belief that we need to collect certificates, diplomas, degrees etc. acts as a security blanket, making us feel ready to fulfil our life goals. Nevertheless, this is just another delay tactic.

Cynics, no doubt, would question this notion, given that many people become very successful after their studies. However, by putting off doing what we really want to do right now, delaying our hearts desires, as we don’t feel ready, equipped or qualified, and never realising our goals, through lack of confidence and fear, all leads to disappointment and, in turn, resentment.

The fact is we can never stop learning. We learn through articles and books, through TV programmes and movies. It shapes our thoughts, beliefs, values and we learn invaluable skills and knowledge through every life experience. That is a qualification in itself.

Research, conducted by the University College of London, shows that when we have high level of feel good chemicals in our bodies, we are able to make decisions much faster, by going with gut instincts, relating to how it makes us feel emotionally. Moreover, in order to create those chemicals you need to do something that motivates and excites you. Furthermore, by combining other “happy chemical” triggers into the equation, such as certain feel good foods and activities; we can create cataclysmic and inspired choices to change your life. Therefore, you can quite literally perpetuate yourself into a happy, successful state through inspired action.

Let me throw another, potentially freedom-inducing, theory into the equation.

Let us say we are living a virtual life, much like a video game. We have infinite power and control over the “game of life” and we have the ability to choose several different scenarios, settings and experiences. If we are living the parallel life then perhaps I am not actually writing this, as my true self is in fact on a warm sandy beach in the tropics, and I am controlling this occurrence from under a palm tree. However, as you are also in the tropics on a 50ft yacht your other self is relaying this article back to you. So, as you are not here, I am elsewhere, and this may not actually be happening, I could in fact choose to write (and this is debatable) all kinds of wackiness!

If, at this specific moment in time, we are living our lives in several parallel universes, we could be running alongside our “other lives”, experiencing different things, all at the same time. Moreover, our multiple, simultaneous lives could be our trusty back-up parachute, so if we do go off course we could, in theory, leap-frog to another.

If it were true, would that “reality” give you more abandon, freedom and flexibility?

In any case, it is better to look back on life and say “I can’t believe I did that” than to look back and say “I wish I did that!” So, perhaps it’s best to give in to our inspired thoughts and feelings and just go for it – as they occur to give us the right, individual and unique life experiences. And, just like a video game, we are all equipped, ready to do anything and can achieve our life goals – If only we had the courage and whole-hearted belief in ourselves.

If the delicate little butterfly can break free, fly into the big wide world and cause a spot of chaos then why can’t you?

Book Review: Dark Light Consciousness

Dark Light ConsciousnessLight is the substance of all seen and unseen things. It is not only a force of energy, but is also the vibration of the fifth dimension.

We are enclosed in higher and higher orders of dimensions and vibration. Christ stated in the bible “when the ‘I’ is single, the body is full of light” – this is not only a spiritual statement, but is a hidden methodological analysis. Separating a material from a spiritual intellect of light, obviously, is a very important matter. Thinking of light in its objective and subjective form is one way to address this.

Light is everything. Everything is light. But can light subsist without darkness? The simple answer is no – without the vast nothingness of darkness light would have nowhere to exist.

In Dark Light Consciousness, Edward Bynum explores the eternal relationship between dark and light in every aspect of existence. From the so-called “physical world” to the mysterious planes of consciousness itself, Bynum combines physics, neuroscience and biochemistry, alongside ancient traditions to reveal how the dark light of melanin (a light-sensitive, energy conducting substance found in the brain, nervous system and organs of all higher life-forms) serves as the biochemical infrastructure for the body, just as dark matter and gravity hold the galaxy’s and constellations together.

Bynum also discusses the evolution of the human brain in compelling detail, explaining that our brains have evolved in a number stages thus-far. First the reptilian brain stem, then the primitive mammalian mid-brain parts of the limbic system, then the finer cortex of the mammals and finally the highly but only partially developed neocortex or “new brain”. It is the neocortex that makes us, as humans, what we are. This part of the brain is one of the most impressive adjustments the universe has ever exhibited – it is quite literally the structure that separates us from the animals.

At times this is a very scientific text, but Bynum always takes the time to explain any concepts in layman’s terms, so the information within should be relatively accessible to everyone. That said, this book is not purely classroom science, it contains the cutting edge of consciousness understanding and even has sections with in-depth writings on techniques for astral projections and advanced meditation. In  fact, there is so much useful and stimulating information in this book that it is hard to write a book review that would do the text justice – sufficed to say, I really enjoyed this one and will be keeping it on my bookshelf for a long time.

Edward Bruce Bynum is a father, husband, writer, poet and yoga devotee with a special interest in the intersection of science, the sacred mystical disciplines and the history of Africa, Kemet and southern India. He is the principal psychiatrist and director of behavioural medicine at UHS in the United States.

I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in understanding our reality. However small that interest may be – you will be left with your jaw on the floor after reading it! Sometimes people write books on the nature of reality and you read it thinking – “yes, that’s possible I suppose” , but in this text the information is so incredibly logical that you will be left thinking “yes – that’s how it is”.

A breathtaking view of life as we don’t know it.

How Do We Define What is Real?

We exist only because we are conscious and without consciousness we would not exist. Our reality is only what our brain tells us our reality is and something only exists, in our reality, if someone consciously decides to look at it and/or measure it.

Can we expand our perception of reality, by disregarding what we think we know our reality to be? If so, would our reality look, sense, feel, smell and taste the same?

Changing Minds in a Crazy World

Many moons ago, when I was still at college, a BBC sports commentator came out, and revealed to the world, that he was the “Son of the Godhead”.

The media stomped all over this well-known ex-soccer player and sports presenter, branding him a complete nutter who needed clothing in a white wrap-around coat and placed in a secure unit, away from the world. They assumed he was proclaiming to be the Son of God and, until today, I too had been sucked in to this media led assumption.

I visited one of his websites last year and discovered content largely relating to the illuminati and his theory that many political figures are in fact descendants of a reptilian race – including The Queen, Tony Blair and George Bush. So, I promptly removed him from my reading list (again) and popped him back into the Pandora’s box of “Do not open unless you are feeling in the need for wide-eyed astonishment and a large dose of WHOA! Hold the phone!”

However, whilst traipsing through a plethora (I love that word!) of YouTube videos, searching for understandable, unambiguous, comprehensible information on quantum language and quantum communication, our Mr Icke reappeared and suddenly a little spark of realisation washed over me. Yes, some of his ideas may seem a little “way out there” but, on the whole, I just think this chap hit the headlines way before his time.

The world, in the 1990′s, was just not ready to hear his views, his theories, his beliefs. However, with the emergence of new theorems, within the quantum branch of science, it is only now that people are listening to his teachings and they really make sense! Even the UK media have reported a rise in popularity, for this previously persecuted public person. He talks about things, that many of us have only just got to grips with over the last couple of years.

David calls the media “disrespectful, ignorant and stunningly ill-informed about the forces behind world events” and he is probably right on every level.

And for that reason, I would love to interview him, I think it would be utterly fascinating!

There Goes the Big Bang

Creation of the UniverseThis post kind of follows on from my article Do We Need Proof?, where I discuss the scientific theory that a God/Higher Power exists, as without the existence of a single powerful source the universe would not have been born.

On my quest to learn more, I came across a news piece, relating to a publication of a new quantum physics paper, which reports that the Big Bang Theory is not as cut and dried as once believed – perhaps adding further weight to a “something else”?

The scientists state that String Theory (in my very rudimentary nutshell is the belief that “strings” are the basis of every single solitary thing in the universe) has never been able to explain in the Big Bang event and there are too many holes in the theory.

Yet the scientists dismissal of the Big Bang Theory gets rather confusing, as they draw on actual matter/molecular analogies to describe the inception of our universe.

In an attempt to describe their new quantum graphity theory, the researchers from Australia’s RMIT state we should think of the pre-universe as water which has been cooled to create ice. This quantum graphity model uses the notion that, in the early days, the universe was fluid and without “form” – just like liquid – and once cooled it crystallised.

This quagmire turns even more bizarre when the theoretical physics researcher James Quach adds, “In the beginning there wasn’t even space, space did not exist because there was no form.” into the mix, leaving my brain in tatters and on the verge of explosive, cataclysmic oblivion!

Just to surmise:

Our non-universe was without form, yet a form formed from our non-universe, and subsequently formed our universe!

I am hanging up my typing fingers and going for a well needed lie down now, in a warm cosy parallel universe with wardrobes,  talking lions and magical Turkish delight………….

Do We Need Proof?

Creation of the UniverseI tend to steer clear from discussing religion, as I feel it is not my place to add bias or opinion one way or another.

I believe that faith is something very personal. Our beliefs make us who we are and if it allows us to be better human beings, on a non-religious spiritual level, then it can only be a good thing.

What I am happy to share is my intrigue of religious philosophers, teachers, scientists and thinkers, from the dawn of time, dark ages right through to present day, all eager to prove the existence of a higher power, divine source, or God. And there has, to date, never been any complete, concrete  evidence that a higher power, or God actually exists.

It is a quandary that may never be solved. Yet, research continues and theories are presented; either on an abstract, intuitive level or lateral rationale. Either way I find it fascinating that religion embraces, and even welcomes science – in particular physics – into the fold.

A news piece caught my eye today, whilst searching new articles on physics. It was released by the Catholic News Agency, entitled “Priest’s new film says physics help prove existence of God”. The priest, Father Robert Spitzer, who is also a philosopher and film producer, created a documentary featuring only “world-class” physicists, from institutions such as NASA, Harvard and Cambridge. The objective of the film was to combine intellectual reason, science and religion in order to provide evidence that a creator – God – exists, to provide sceptics and non-believers with unquestionable proof.

The documentary discusses the big bang theory, modern physics, and turns to the topic of a single creator of the universe. The scientists concluded that it is nigh on impossible for the universe to simply pop up out of nowhere and therefore, it must have been created by a “something”.

There has to be a beginning; as nothing can existence without existence (or life). So where and how did it all start?

Now that is a question that conjures hours of puzzling, mind-boggling debate and according to the priest, “When”, which I would see more as “If”, the universe was nothing it could not have changed from nothing into something, as the “something” had to have been a founding creator. He also states a creator would need to exist outside space and time as, if the Big Bang theory is correct if nothing existed -not even space or time – then the evidence from physics indicates (or rather cannot disprove) the existence of God.

So, I visited his documentary site.

What I found was the film on sale at a minimum spend of $200! This could lend sceptics more ammunition, conspiracy theories and discredits all credibility for the film. I would have to say I was disappointed. I expected a film of this genre to be squeaky clean and brought to the respected, relevant, mainstream networks, to showcase the scientific opinion.

I have decided not to publicise his site and thus leave it up to you to decide whether you want to look into it further. But I hope it does not detract from the key subject that science is now playing a greater part in our physical and spiritual world. The need to question what we believe helps us to evolve on a holistic level – in every sense of the word.

The world is certainly a puzzling place and, luckily, the scientific department of physics is here to help us unravel the mysteries of the universe, from its beginning and beyond.
